Mazzen Shalaby
College ‘20, Batten ‘21 | Fredericksburg, VA
Mazzen is a graduate of Harvard Law School. He served as the student member of the Board of Visitors from 2020 to 2021. At UVA, he was president of the Muslim Student Association (MSA) from 2019 to 2020. He is a Jefferson Scholar and lived on the Lawn.
Zaakir Tameez
College ‘19 | Houston, TX
Zaakir is a graduate of Yale Law School. He worked in President Jim Ryan’s office from 2019 to 2020. At UVA, he was the founder and first executive director of the Muslim Institute for Leadership & Empowerment (MILE). He is a Fulbright Scholar and lived on the Lawn.
Omar Elhaj
College ‘21 | Burke, VA
Omar is a graduate of the Princeton School of Public & International Affairs. At UVA, he was President of the Class of 2020 for all four years. He was also the recruitment director of Muslim Institute for Leadership & Empowerment (MILE) from 2018 to 2019.
Sara Zahir
College ‘19, McIntire ‘20 | McLean, VA
Sara is the Innovation & Business Development Manager at a startup in New York. She sits on the Young Alumni Council, advising the Board of Managers at the UVA Alumni Association. At UVA, she led the Virginia Interfaith Coalition from 2017 to 2019. She lived on the Range.
Al Ahmed

Al is a medical student at St. George’s University. At UVA, he was the president of the Muslim Student Association (MSA) and the director of operations for Muslim Institute for Leadership & Empowerment (MILE) from 2018 to 2019. He helped to lead the campaign to build the UVA Interfaith Student Center.

Sarah is a fourth-year student at UVA and was a member of the UVA Task Force on Religious Diversity & Belonging. She served as the Outreach Chair of the Muslim Student Association (MSA) from 2023 to 2024. She is a Jefferson Scholar.

Muaaz is a Senior Business Analyst at McKinsey & Company. At UVA, he was the president of the Muslim Student Association (MSA) from 2022 to 2023. He lived on the Lawn.
